The Tenets of Taekwondo

What are the Tenets of Taekwondo?

·       Courtesy

·       Integrity

·       Perseverance

·       Self-Control

·       Indomitable Spirit

Some people believe that these tenets only apply to younger people.  This philosophy could not be farther from the truth.

·        Courtesy – Being polite or kind to all people inside or outside your normal daily life.  In Taekwondo we try to start off every sentence or question with a “Sir or Ma’am” to all ages and use that honorific to show that we offer respect to everyone.

·        Integrity – Being true to yourself.  Earning everything that has been bestowed upon us.  Being honest to a fault to ourselves and those around us.

·        Perseverance – NEVER QUIT, NEVER GIVE UP!  No matter if you have been knocked down, no matter if it does not seem fair you will keep working towards your goal.

·        Self-Control – Having control of our mind and body.  Being able to stay focused and in touch with your surroundings even in the face of danger.

·        Indomitable Spirit – This can be seen in many different ways.  I choose to see it as I will never let someone else’s opinion make me see less of myself.  I will build up those around me and keep faith that the world will be a better place with everyone’s spirit intact.

Taekwondo translates in English as “The Way of the Hand and Foot, and the Way of Life”.  The tenets are what we use to live a healthy life.  Every person no matter their age or station in life should use the Tenets of Taekwondo.  It also makes the world a better place for all of us to live in.
